Expanding education and learning new things influences teachers and students to use technology in the classroom. Technology in the classroom can range from an app on the computer to a left-haded desk to a Smartboard, and all these technologies can be very useful for education.
The ISTE standard that makes the most sense to me is "Citizen." Teachers are constantly inspiring students to participate in the digital world and having positive behavior online. Lots of teachers use an online application or site for their class and encourage their students to become digitally literate with that application. For example, in this class our teacher had us set up a twitter and we are expected to post a certain amount of tweets during the semester. Teachers also emphasize how to behave online. For example, schools and teachers always have talks about cyberbullying and how harmful it can be. An ISTE standard that seems out of my skill set is "Analyst." As a teacher, I could not see myself taking much time to emphasize data collection or creating reflections or assessments.
A digital native is someone born in the generation of technology, therefore familiar with technology at a young age. I agree with this term in some ways but also disagree with it in other ways. I think that to be familiar with computers and the internet you need to have lots of experience with it. This does not necessarily mean that just because you were born in a certain generation you are automatically digitally literate. On the other hand, there are probably lots more children than elders that are good with technology. Everyone can figure out technology, but students are usually much faster and cooperative with technology than their teachers are. This has not impacted my education in a big way other than communication. If a teacher does not know how to use their email very well, for example, they will not respond to my email quickly which is sometimes frustrating. I hope there is not a big difference in the knowledge of technology between me and my future students. If more technologies appear in education I will hopefully adapt and learn quickly.
