ILP #2 PARTICIPATION- teacher interview

       For my independent learning project #2 I conducted a teacher interview with my fifth grade teacher, Mrs.King, to learn more about the technology she uses in her classroom. I learned a lot about the resources she uses like, the smart board and overhead projector, and also what technologies her students use in class.

Teacher Interview:
  1. What are the main types of technology you use in your classroom? 
  • “I use the smartboard and the overhead projector most often, but I also have two computers, one at my desk and one by the smartboard, and a row of computers for the students.”
  1. What do you use the smartboard and overhead projector for?
  • “I use the smartboard for almost everything. I can use it to write notes because there is a whiteboard function where you can write on it with different colored markers. I can use it to play videos, play educational games with the students, etc. The overhead projector is really convenient because I can show the students what I am looking at and use it to explain directions or show what something is supposed to look like. The smartboard is overall just really convenient because it is right at the front of the room where everyone can see.”
  1. Are there any technologies that the students can use themselves? 
  • “Yes, plenty. There's a whole row of computers in the back that they use for AR, math facts, and games. There’s also tape recorded books that students can listen to with headphones during AR time, once they have reached their goal of course.” 
  1. Do you prefer paper based testing or computer based testing?

  • “Well, I used to think that paper based testing was better because students were more comfortable with that, but now, I honestly think that computer based is what students are more comfortable with these days. It doesn't matter to me, because I’m not the one taking the test, so I guess I prefer whatever my students prefer.”

       The "flipped classroom" approach is when students are expected to learn material before class and be ready for discussion in class. An example of this is having a reading for homework and then talking about that reading and relating it to the learning objective in class the next day. I think that this is very effective and gives students a glimpse of what they are expected to know so that they are more prepared for class. This approach is used in almost all of my classes and I feel that I have benefited from it.        Open educational resources (OER) are resources that are free and open to the public to use for educational purposes.       I really enjoy using Twitter for educational purposes. I have learned a lot about educational technology because I accounts that post about new technologies in the classroom. I also learn a lot from what my classmates tweet, because I see their ideas and opinions on information that they see or post about. The benefits of using Twitter is gaining more knowledge on the topic of educational technology outside of the classroom.      I learned a lot from the Web design project and I really enjoyed doing it. I learned how to navigate through Weebly and also how to make a website in the future. The only thing about Weebly that I did not like what that it was kind of difficult to use. Next time, I will add more designs and creative pictures to my website to make it stand out more.
