Blog #10

I will use data collection as a teacher to learn more information about my students. I want to teach second grade, so I would love to learn more about my students and what they do outside of the classroom. I will most likely use Excel as a grade book because it is very easy to keep track of grades. Second grade classes have lots of work and assignments so Excel will be easy to keep track of all the different assignments.      The topics that I found the most interesting from this class were the Office365 tools. This class taught me more about Powerpoint, Excel, and Word which is very helpful because I can use these skills in my future career as a teacher. Another topic that I found the most interesting was designing a website using Weebly. I really enjoyed making my own website and gained lots of skills from that assignment that I will also use in my future career.       A technology-related skill I would like to learn more about is le...

The "flipped classroom" approach is when students are expected to learn material before class and be ready for discussion in class. An example of this is having a reading for homework and then talking about that reading and relating it to the learning objective in class the next day. I think that this is very effective and gives students a glimpse of what they are expected to know so that they are more prepared for class. This approach is used in almost all of my classes and I feel that I have benefited from it.        Open educational resources (OER) are resources that are free and open to the public to use for educational purposes. The link provided below shows an article that has a list of 16 OERs that teachers/students can use. There are numerous sites for OERs listed in this article that could be very helpful for teachers. These OERs are very easy to access and use and free to the public which makes them the ideal resources for teache...

ILP DESIGN- photoshop

Image
For my Independent Learning Project, I decided to edit pictures on photoshop to show how this app can be effective and useful in an educational setting. I took a picture of a sunflower and edited it to show how you can alter pictures, and I also took a picture of someone texting and driving to show how powerful a photo can be, especially when it's edited. I learned a lot from using photoshop and think that it is a very effective app in the educational setting. Link to voice thread:  https://voicethread.com/myvoice/create/13252822

ILP #2 PARTICIPATION- teacher interview

For my independent learning project #2 I conducted a teacher interview with my fifth grade teacher, Mrs.King, to learn more about the technology she uses in her classroom. I learned a lot about the resources she uses like, the smart board and overhead projector, and also what technologies her students use in class. Link to voice thread:  https://voicethread.com/myvoice/create/13252589 Notes from the interview: Teacher Interview: What are the main types of technology you use in your classroom?  “I use the smartboard and the overhead projector most often, but I also have two computers, one at my desk and one by the smartboard, and a row of computers for the students.” What do you use the smartboard and overhead projector for? “I use the smartboard for almost everything. I can use it to write notes because there is a whiteboard function where you can write on it with different colored markers. I can use it to play videos, play ed...
